Blog Overhaul To-Do List

You spoke and I listened. I've been taking into consideration everyone's recent comments on all the different ways to improve my blog and have composed a list of things that need done in order to make those improvements. Of course all of this can't be done overnight, but I'll be working on it in the weeks to come. So if you notice some construction going on, please excuse the mess while I get things into their proper working order.

Upcoming New and Improved Features

  • Fix any broken links or images that display an error

  • Decrease site load time with code compression

  • Add a signature file to all posts

  • Add a "ReTweet This" button to all posts DONE!

  • Design a symmetric layout - sidebar on the left, sidebar on the right, posts in the middle

  • Generally clean-up and declutter the blog's overall appearance

  • Reorganize and recategorized the Archive with the appropriate Labels

  • Consolidate the Labels list, display in a compact hierarchy that is more user-friendly

  • RSS Subscription Feed link in post footer

  • Create an automatic list of links to "related posts of interest" in post footer

  • Move "Support" section to page footer, list horizontally

  • Install a better Language Translation tool

  • Highlight blog author’s comments

  • Make an effort to write shorter, more concise posts without rambling

  • Consider developing a new "About" section

  • Update "Featured Posts" section DONE!

  • Refresh "Noteworthy Blogs" section, remove abandon blogs, add new blogs of interest

  • Create a custom Twitter badge with TwitterStamp Beta 3.0 DONE!

  • Code a Blogger Stats gadget that displays blog’s total subscriber count, visitor count, post count, comment count and blogging since time frame (years/months/days)

  • Introduce the world to my blog mascot (I think you know who that is) and to my first ever guest blogger (that will be a surprise to all)

  • Continue to complain to Blogger Technical Support until they fix the Followers/IE bug that keeps crashing my blog and so many others DONE!

I just want to thank everyone once again for all your feedback. Hopefully these 20+ changes I'm looking to make will be changes for the better.

That's one long list! Just looking at it makes me cringe a bit :S
But why stop rambling? It's a part of you, a piece of personality within your well written posts. Don't change yourself just because someone says so! You should only change for yourself. But anyways, keep up the hard work :)

I agree with Jay. Everything else is alright but I like your 'rambling' style. For a blog it might be longer than people are used to but reading is good for them! Fix the web page, leave the style.

Sounds like you gonna have some busy moments so you can fix everything you wrote on that list.
But I do agree with Jay and Alex; i like your rambling on the posts.
Like Alex said "Fix the web page, leave the style"

I've not been doing much reading of your posts. But judging by the little reading I do, I can say that your rumbling does help me relax. Rumbling is ok by me, it's like talking about something serious, breaking off to crack a joke to relax the listener(s), and then continueing with the main issue. I don't think that's too bad. Keep up the good work.

Well, David, I think this will be an exciting time for you.

In your case, change will be a good thing.

The layout and overall design of your blog looks really professional.

The fact that you're a tech/computer/gadget type person who knows all about that computer-design-code-stuff, I'm sure the new layout you have planned will look just as nice.

Code compression? Never heard of that until now! I've got to get me one of those!

Can't wait to see what you and your "mascot" (^_^) have got up your sleeves!

OMG!

Is anyone else cracking up at the "anonymous" comment (just above mine) using the word "rumbling" instead of "rambling"?!?

LOL, I'm guessing English may not be their first language but it still made me giggle to read the typo in that context!

Not trying to be a jerk, just thought it was funny!

Wow, you're so good. Can you do my blog next?? :)

David said...

Yeah, I actually would...for a kiss on the cheek!

Ok, I would do it even without that. :)

I'm really looking forward to seeing your new design! And I'm all over fixing broken links now, so I feel your pain...

Just a thought...
Do you personally know Marissa? I have been following her blog for a while now too and I have always thought that you and her would make a cute couple. She seems like an awesome gal!

wow, you have a long list. Personally I liked your blog and didn't think you needed to change anything. All though I would like to see more pictures of you :p

David said...

Ha. Yes, I know her and I agree. :)

Marissa is a very sweet girl and a great catch! Unfortunely, she just moved and now lives entirely too far away from me to actually date...which if you ask me, really sucks.

where are you ever going to find the time to do all of that!

For an About Me section, I think different people's views of your blog would be a great idea.

That's the idea that I took, and I'm a fan of it.

Just my two cents. Good luck with the upgrades!

Wow, I only understand three of the proposed changes on your list. This makes it screamingly obvious that I am the biggest computer dummy. If anyone reading this, including you David, would like to take the time to explain a few of these, I would be grateful because I would like to expand the old grey matter and improve my blog.

Wow! that's a fine , long list .
Now it's time to procrastinate ( I guess I would have done that by aimlessly wondering at the list for few days ) lolx
Hope to see the modifications soon :D

Good luck!!! Ha, it took me a day just to figure out how the hell the whole basic html thingy kinda sorta works.. I would butcher that list, but I'm sure you've got it! Can't wait to see all the improvements

I haven't had a chance to read everything you've written yet... but I've read quite a bit and my only comment/request would be to not mess with your post length.

You write what you are thinking and what it takes to make your point in a way that satisfies you. You're the one that matters! If its really hard to read your 'ramblings' as you/they have called them, let them skim!! Geesh.

But have fun with all thay techy stuff. :P Glad I don't have to think about that yet. Hehe!

I'm excited for the changes!

Making the To Do list should be the first thing on your To Do list.

You get to cross something off right away.

Good incentive.

I wish my dog wouldn't sleep on the couch all day and instead make some of these blog changes for me while I'm at work.

Afterall, I do provide food and shelter for him. The least he can do is update my blog!

M said...

Exactly, best friends should do that for each other!

Molly said...

i agree w/ the people who said don't quit rambling---it's part of your writing style, and it makes you, uniquely you! :)

pamelaperez said...

wow thats awesome that your readers actually gave you feedback on your blog! how do you get them to do that? are you bribing them?! totally joking!

David said...

Ha. If you ask, you shall receive. I just threw the question out on this previous post (link below) and had a lot of feedback from readers. It was very helpful!
